Our Fresh Hop Brewing Process
I picked 30 pounds of fresh Chinooks from the farm in the morning and then drove back to Telluride to brew that night. It took me about 6 hours to get the 30 pounds. I though I would of doubled that weight. So cool to brew within hours of harvesting the Chinooks. The longest brewery ever, but at the same time one of the coolest things I have done in the world of beer. I originally planned to do a 7 bbl batch but I did not get enough hops so i scaled it down to a 4 bbl batch. I brewed and American Style Pale Ale. I used Chinook Pellets for my bittering charge 5 minutes into the boil. I then used 10 pounds of the wet Chinook with 30 minutes left in the boil. After the boil I threw 16 pounds of fresh into my mashtun and used it as a hop back. I pumped wort through it on the way to the Fermenter. I finished this hop goodness off by adding a 4 pound Chinook wethop to the Fermenter.

Turned out to be a hop juicy session ale. Huge fresh hop "GREEN" notes. This is probably now the most requested beer out of my portfolio of about 40 beers through the year. Can't wait to do it again. Visit www.smugglersbrew.com
